It is an evidence-based approach to assist people to move forward. The technique is designed to strengthen motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person's own reasons for change. (Miller & Rollnick, 2013). In short, it is a conversation style to help people who are stuck between where they are and where they would like to be. While it developed in the field of treating addiction, M.I. has been applied in countless settings, including those of industry as a means to develop transformational leadership. His background is in education and social policy and he has held senior leadership positions in Limerick, Dublin and Mississippi. During this period he has presented before the OECD, shared a vision from the TED stage and been elected to South Dublin County Council. In 2019, William had a spoken-word piece performance at the Edinburgh Fringe, ‘Inferno, Kid’, which outlined the gritty reality faced by young people in areas of acute social marginalisation. William has a Masters of Education from the University of Notre Dame and has delivered workshops to groups in both the community and private sectors. He directed the composition of the national Strategic Plan (2022-2024). and the implementation of the annual Policing Plans across the entire organisation. Since then, he has served in other senior leadership roles in the Irish government. In 2019, he staged an award-winning performance at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
